I always make my own pillows for several reasons. 1. I like to change up pillows often. 2. I usually find prettier material by using thrifted items or thrifted material. 3. Storage. Extra pillows take up so much storage space. By purchasing nice pillow forms and recovering them over and over, you save so much storage space.
You can read this blog post on how I make designer inspired pillows for so much less than purchasing new pillows.
How to Make Designer Inspired Pillows
The Valance
This deep green valance was found at my favorite thrift store. I thought the material looked vintage and I love the trim. The trim can be used on the pillow.
Supplies
Valance or material
The only fabric glue I use is Liquid Stitch. A couple of years ago, I went to Southern Living Headquarters to make a No-Sew Pillow on video for their website. I made one pillow with Liquid Stitch and they decided they wanted to film me gluing the pillow together again. I promise you, we could not separate the pillow that had been glued. Even the cameraman tried. We all realized that it was very durable glue. Luckily, I brought more material with me.
Instructions for the DIY No-Sew Pillow
I am going to show you how you can make this pillow with fabric glue or you can sew the pillow.
- Measure and cut the valance into a rectangle the size you desire. Cut two pieces of the same size rectangles.
2. Sew or glue one end of the pillow.
3. Glue one end of the pillow together.
4. Use clothespins or clips that you would use for potato chip bags to hold the fabric together.
5. Stuff the pillow with a pillow form or pillow filler and glue or sew the other end. Cut two pieces of the tassel trim for the ends of the pillow. Glue the trim onto the pillow. This diy no-sew pillow made with a valance is so easy to do. When I get tired of these pillows, I can easily make more.
