The great thing about knitting with chunky yarn and large knitting needles is that you can knit a project more quickly. I love this knitted pillow with tassels because it is super easy to knit and you can make it in a couple of hours.

Knitted pillows and throws give texture to a room and especially when they are made with chunky yarn. It makes a space feel warm and cozy. The great thing about this pillow pattern is that I made the pillow in one evening and it cost me less than $5 to make. I already had the needles and the yarn for the tassels. I purchased my yarn from Hobby Lobby with a coupon.

Have you ever knitted a prayer blanket for someone? The pattern is Knit 3, Purl 3 across and repeat every row. That is the pattern for this pillow. When you knit a prayer blanket, you can say, “Father, Son, and Holy Spirit” as you knit instead of counting 3 stitches over and over. That is what I find myself doing when I knit this pattern for the pillow.

12 x 16 pillow form

You can make your pillow any size you want. I use my pillow forms over and over. When I want something different, I remove the pillow cover and make something new. It is a great way to save money but even better, it saves storage space. Unused pillows take up a lot of room in your storage. My pillow form is 12 x 16.

I used Yarn Bee Astounding from Hobby Lobby and I used a coupon. The weight is 3.5 oz and it is bulky 6. I used size US 35 knitting needles.

The Pattern

Cast on 30 stitches.

Knit 3, purl 3 every single row until it measures the desired length. I knitted 30 rows.

Bind off.

Knit 3, Purl 3 accross on every row

I only wanted to knit one side because I wanted a fabric back on the pillow but you could keep on knitting until it is long enough to fold for the back.

I sewed my knitted pillow front to a piece of fabric for the back.

Sew the front to the fabric back by hand and insert a pillow form.

I used a smaller yarn to make tassels for the knitted pillow.

I used a thinner yarn to make the tassels because I wanted the tassels to be really thick and chunky. Sew the tassels to the corners of the pillow with needle and thread.

If you are not sure how to make tassels view the photos below.

Wrap something square the size you want your tassels with yarn. I wrapped these 50 times around the lid. Tie one end with string and cut the other end.

I love the coziness and texture that the knitted pillow with tassels gives to my room but what I really love most is that it is handmade. I will be making a few of these to give as gifts. Wouldn’t this pillow along with a throw makes a great gift for someone special?
