Being organized and knowing what supplies you have on hand will save you time and a lot of money. I am going to show you how to organize paint supplies so that it will make your DIY and crafting life easier.

How to organize paint suppliesAn amazing group of home bloggers will be teaming up all year long to give you ideas for Do It Yourself projects that you can use in your home.

This month’s challenge is DIY Home Organization and I am sharing an organization method for storing my paints that has made my life easier.

Paint

Use narrow shelves

I used to store my paint on wide shelves in our workshop and I would have to dig through them to see my paint. Knowing that I was wasting money purchasing paint supplies that already had the paint on my shelves but I could not see.

Shelves for paint supplies.

Wasting money really bothers me so I try to repurpose items I already own. We had a set of bunk beds and one of the frames broke but I hung on to the wood so I could use it for another project. When I was trying to figure out a way to organize all my paint, I thought that I needed the paint to be displayed so that I could see every can. I could use the boards from the broken bunk beds for some really long and narrow shelves. I had the brackets already so my husband and I installed the shelves on a wall in our garage.

Supplies

I also needed a place to store brushes, painter’s tape, and more supplies.  I purchased a pegboard and added hooks and baskets to the board. This pegboard project is still in the works because I think I need a few more baskets for all my small paintbrushes. That’s the thing with organizing, you have to play around with it until you find a way that works for you.

When I am working on my shopping list for supplies, I can glance at all my paint at once and know exactly what I have. Also, this paint storage method is great when I am brainstorming a project because I can plan my project according to what paints I already own. I hope that this method for how to store paint supplies helps you with your organization.

I love that you reused boards from a bed to create the shelves!! I also need to organize my paints. I need to find a place to build shelves like these. Love the peg board idea to hang tape. I am always trying to find it in a drawer.

My husband and I were just having this conversation yesterday as I picked up can after can of stain trying to find the color I was looking for! LOL This is a great solution!

So so smart, and I love that the shallow shelves make it easy to see exactly what you have. It’s funny because I am a saver of stuff too. When I made my project this month from scrap wood I made sure to tell my husband it’s from that narrow strip of plywood he wanted me to toss in the garbage 😁

Hello Sherry! Your garage organization space looks terrific with all the paint cans, bottles, and sprays all lined up according to color and such!!! Saved to my Cleaning, Organizing and Storage boards. Perfect as we will be doing this, too, in our new-to-us home soon!

    Thanks for the repurposing ideas,
    Hugs,
    Barb 🙂
