I was so excited to be asked by Southern Living to come into their headquarters and film a video of my Painted Metallic Books.  I thought I would be a nervous wreck because being on camera or talking on stage is way out of my comfort zone.  The staff at Southern Living was super to work with.  They made it fun and easy so the nerves went away. Thank goodness! You can also view my video for No-Sew Deer Pillow here.

I made these painted metallic books in just a few minutes, and I am loving how cute my books turned out.

Instructions

You can usually find books at yard sales or thrift stores for hardly any money at all.

You can use so many different things to design your painted metallic books but I used round stickers and frog tape.

I used cardboard boxes with holes cut out to hold my books so that I can spray paint the covers while keeping the pages safe from the paint.

Spray paint the books the color that you want for the dots and stripes.  I wanted gold dots, so I sprayed the book gold before applying the dot stickers.  I wanted silver stripes so I sprayed one of the books silver first.

I taped off my designs and took my books back outside to spray paint them again. Use white spray paint for the second coat of paint.

After the books had dried, I removed the frog tape and the stickers.

The painted metallic books add a little bling and a little elegance to my writing desk.  I am all about decor that you can make easily with items that you already have in your home.

Sherry I love some gold here and there as well and this idea is fantastic! And how easy! I have a few books that I like to use for decoration and this would really add some glam to them!

This is a terrific idea. I am pinning it absolutely going to use this.

I am impressed in how you used cut out boxes to protect the page. Proof that if you think on it, you can usually find a way.

It will be really cute on all sorts of items, thrift store vases, lamps, boring Christmas ornaments.

How fun Sherry, and so easy to do. I love how they turned out, They look fantastic and make such pretty decor. I never would have thought of using tape and round stickers, and then spray painting the books to make home decor. I love this idea!

What a great idea! I’ve been collecting old worn and beaten up books from thrift stores to fill some shelves, but now I think I’m going to start picking up cheap books no matter the cover to try this! Great idea!! Thank you for sharing at Merry Monday!!

Love this! The books on our shelves always seem to have an obnoxious color that doesn’t go with the room at all. This would make them look pretty and keep them readable too!

Aren’t you the clever one? 😀 Thanks for the inspiration. For my home I would probably go with something like the gold but in the right room those colors would be so fun and unexpected. Visiting via Inspire Me Monday. Glad I stopped in.
