Make a throw with chunky tassels from an old throw and yarn that looks just like the throws in stores.

Do you ever go into a store a see something for your home and think, “I can make that?”  I do it all the time and especially after looking at the price tag.

DIY throw with chunky tassels

I wanted to add some touches of fall in my home with warm colors and cozy textures. My favorite way to do this is with pillows, throws, and autumn stems. After purchasing new stems for my vases, and material for pillows, I need to save money in other areas. There is a throw with chunky marigold colored tassels that I see on Instagram. After looking at the throw online, I figured that it would be easy to make. I remembered that I own a cream color throw and I have plenty of leftover yarn.

Making your own tassels is super easy.

Instructions

throw and yarn

Get a throw blanket. You may have something you already own that will work.

Supplies for tassels

Find something to wrap the yarn around a little bit larger than the size of tassel you desire. I use an old picture frame without a back.  A book works well also.

Instructions for Tassels

wrap the yarn around the frame

Wrap the yarn around the object. I wrapped mine 100 times around the frame because I want very chunky tassels.

Slide the yarn off.

Slide the yarn off and tie piece of yarn around the yarn very tightly. This piece yarn will be used to tie the tassel onto the throw.

Tie yarn around tassel

Tie another piece of yarn around the tassel. Do this before you cut the bottom of your tassel.

Cut the bottom of tassel.

Finally, cut the bottom loop as shown above.

Trim tassel

Trim up your tassel so that it is full and the strings of yarn are even.

Making a DIY throw with chunky tassels with an old throw is a great way to bring fall colors into your home. These tassels are easy to remove so that you can add tassels in a different color if you want a change. I enjoy adding new things to my home when the seasons change. If I can change up something that I already own, it makes me feel good. Not only does it save me money, it saves space in my home that I don’t have to store stuff and that’s a win.
