It’s Week 5 for the One Room Challenge where I am making over our lake house outdoor space.

One Room Challenge week 5

What is the One Room Challenge?

The One Room Challenge or the ORC is a challenge where participants get to show how they transform a space in a few weeks. Apartment Therapy is the media partner for the ORC. It is a bi-yearly challenge that will last 8 weeks. This will be my 3rd time participating in this challenge. You can see Week One with all of the before pictures and my inspiration for the space. I have chosen to do a space at our lake which makes it a little harder since it is 40 minutes from our home.

Week 5

We only worked on the space one day last weekend. Even though it was only a day, we feel like we got a lot accomplished.

The evening we arrived at the lake house, we assembled all of the outdoor furniture.

Installed Outdoor Fans

I did not take a picture but we hung all of the outdoor lights and they are beautiful. We used 4 boxes of hanging lights and we may add 2 more.

Lately, we having of trouble getting paint where I live. I have had to make a lot of calls to find the paint we need. My inspiration for the outdoor kitchen is for the wood to be stained black. I had to drive 40 minutes to get the black stain. All of the boards that I am using on the outdoor kitchen got one coat of stain. I am not happy at all with how it looks.

The only black stain that I could find was PolyShade. I figured this stain would be perfect for outdoors because it has polyurethane already in it. It was not easy to apply and I could not get the shiny spots wiped out. I will be painting all of the boards next weekend with exterior black paint.

Here is a post showing the method I use to clean and soften paint brushes that have dried with paint.

I have a DIY coffee table that I am creating but I do not want to show pictures of it until it is done. I don’t think anyone would get my vision yet.
