How to remove paint from hardware easily.

Spray Paint is such a great way to update your cabinet hardware without having to purchase new hardware. You can usually save over $50 depending on how many cabinets you have. As you can see in this picture, the pewter-colored spray paint has held up very well. This hardware was spray-painted over 15 years ago.  Paint is such a good way to update your home.

I want to remove the pewter spray paint before I paint the hardware a new color. The original hardware is brass from the 1990s and I would like a more modern gold color.

Use a Slow Cooker

Use a crockpot to remove paint from hardware.

I used my old crock pot.

Set crock pot on low setting

  1. Place the hardware in the crockpot and set on the low setting.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Removing the paint from the hardware.2. After one hour, check and see if you can rub or scratch off the paint easily. If it is not easy to remove, let the hardware heat for 30 more minutes and test again. Keep try every 15 or 20 minutes until the paint will rub off. Do not let it heat in the slow cooker all day.  Use tongs to remove the hardware from the slow cooker because it will be very hot.                                                   Remove from slow cooker and rub off the paint.3. Rub the paint off with a damp paper towel. Sometimes I use a small brush to remove the paint. It should come off easily.                                                                How to remove paint from cabinet hardware or door knobs.Spray paint the hardware or use as they are now.   I have removed paint from the hardware in several of my bathrooms.
