Okra cooked on the grill is absolutely wonderful! I love to cook vegetables from the garden on the grill, and it is one of the easiest ways to prepare your side dishes. You do not need a recipe. You just wash, chop, season, and throw it on the grill.  The first time I grilled okra, I knew that I would have a tough time selling this grilled vegetable to my husband and kids.  I told them that it was soaked in butter and seasoned with their favorite seasoning.  They were very afraid of the slime issue that okra has, but they instantly loved it! They all agreed that it tastes a lot like fried okra, and it is not slimy at all.  The secret is you have to char the okra. Cook it until it slightly turns black.

After you wash and let your okra dry, dip the okra in melted butter. You could also brush the okra with melted butter. Sprinkle the okra with your favorite Cajun seasoning. You can place the okra directly on an oiled grill, or place the okra on a skewer. Cook for a couple of minutes until the okra looks charred.  Flip the okra and char the other side.

I will go out on a limb and say that I would rather have this side than french fries. My daughter and husband would also choose the okra hands down. I’m afraid my son would have to go with the fries.
