This felted knitted bag is knitted with 100% wool yarn and is knitted with only the knit stitch. The knitted bag has been washed in the washing machine to felt the bag. Since the yarn is 100% wool the bag will shrink and tighten so that it has this beautiful felted look. Don’t let felting scare you. It is so easy!
I grew up in a small town and everyday after school a group of young girls and I would walk to the town knitting shop. The store owner taught us to knit and she let us stay in her shop until our parents picked us up after work. I still love to walk into a yarn store because it brings back so many wonderful memories.
I also love that all the crafts that I did are coming back. The younger women now are knitting, doing embroidery, and macramé. They call all these things “Boho and vintage”. The difference is that we had nothing else to do except craft when we were kids.

Let’s talk about this felted knitted bag! If you can do the knit stitch, you can make this bag. You can add any embellishments to this bag. You don’t have to knit a flower, you can use a fabric flower if you would like.
The bag is knitted with circular needles. If you have never knitted with circular needles, don’t worry because it is very easy. You just continue to knit without ever having to turn your work around. I think this bag is pretty quick to knit.
You will bind off the purse when you have knitted it to the desired size. I knitted 55 rows. Sign up for my email and I will immediately send you the password to all of my patterns and other freebies.
The straps are also knitted.
Knit one rose and a couple of leaves in any colors that you like.
I threw the bag, the straps, and all of the embellishments in a pillowcase. Tie a knot in the pillowcase and place it in your washing machine. It does not matter if it is a front load or top load washer. Use hot water and wash on the shortest cycle. When the cycle is over, take the pillowcase out and pull out your knitted pieces. You may have to pull a little on them to shape them. Let the knitted pieces dry. Do not put them in the dryer! After everything is dry, sew your straps onto your bag.
More purse patterns coming very soon!
I hope you will knit this felted knitted bag. It is so much fun and the possibilities are endless!
