I’ve paired up with 19 other talented ladies to bring you a monthly Thrift Store Decor Upcycle Challenge. Each month we will create a new home decor piece from an item(s) we’ve found at a thrift store. There is no budget or specific theme so we are free to let our creativity run wild!

I am so excited over my thrift store finds! I have been wanting an x leg bench for the end of my bed, but I could not find any for under $100. Except for this one, and it will not go with my decor at all! Not even close!
I really want two x leg benches but that is going to be double the price so I have to get my cheap self to thinking…what can I use to make the x leg bench of my dreams. I head to the thrift stores!
I look at some TV trays because they have x legs but they are too small. I find a broken director’s chair and it looks like it will work perfect, and it is $2.99.
I go to back a few days later and find another broken director’s chair. I am telling you the thrift store gods are shining down on me.
I must not have had my glasses on when I took this blurry picture but you get the idea of what the chairs looked like. I removed the broken arm off one of them with my small rechargeable screwdriver. This screwdriver is perfect for me because our large one is heavy, and it is hard to maneuver.
Now I need something for padding and something to cover them with. If you know me, you know I love to decorate with fur. I am telling you the thrift store gods are loving me today. It is $5.99 plus half off! I am sure some chick rocked this faux fur back in the 80’s!
You mean no one wants an out of date faux fur! I think this will do nicely.
Okay, now I need some padding…..
6 of these discounted pieces of foam and they fit perfectly! What??
It took three different thrift stores to find all my supplies. I went home and sprayed the chairs with paint.
I cut the lining out of the fur and measured my material.
I cut out my material.
I thought the fur coat may fray but thankfully it did not.
I stacked two pieces of foam on the chair and stapled them to the ends. I placed my fur squares onto the chair and stapled them. Shh…Don’t tell anyone but my benches have a secret hiding place on the backside for my money and my bling (the coat pockets)!
Also, everything in this picture of our bedroom is from a Thrift Store, except the headboard that was 50% off at Tuesday Morning because it has a small hole that no one will ever see on the backside, and the two striped pillows were from Z Gallerie clearance for $5 each. The sunburst mirror on the right wall is a thrift store mirror with wooden skewers that I glued and spray painted.
I am so pleased with my DIY x leg bench and my husband is pleased that my two new x leg benches cost $15 dollars plus tax.
