Make a Sunburst Mirror from faux wood mini blinds from the Thrift Store

Did you know that you can easily make a DIY sunburst mirror from thrift store blinds?  All you need is a small mirror, a old set of faux wood mini blinds, a can of spray paint, and a glue gun.  Sunburst mirrors seem to be very popular right now.  I think they look beautiful above a bed or over a fireplace.

I seem to be drawn to gold lately. I am loving gold jewelry, gold home decor, anything gold, and especially with white. I am trying to change the silver accents in my home to gold, and this usually happens with spray paint.  If I find small mirrors at the thrift store, I grab them because I know that I will find a way to use them.  I had the small round mirror, so I went shopping for something that I could use to glue to the mirror.

I didn’t want to use paint sticks, because I already had made one with paint sticks for our lake house.  I came across this faux wood blind for $1.99. The blinds are one inch wide.  I thought the standard two inch blinds would be too wide.
DIY Sunburst Mirror from faux mini blinds purchased from a Thrift Store

I did not take pictures of this mirror in the process of making it, but I have pictures of one that I made out of paint sticks.  You can view the directions here.

I took it apart, cut it up, and glued the pieces to the back of the mirror with a glue gun.  I was able to cut the blinds in pieces with a pair of heavy duty scissors, but you could use a hacksaw if your blinds are better made than mine.

I accidently covered my picture hanger, so I used a command strip to attach the mirror to the fireplace.  This also avoided putting a nail hole in the wood.  I let the glued mirror sit overnight before I spray painted it with rustoleum metallic gold spray paint.

I love that I made my sunburst mirror from something as inexpensive as a set of blinds purchased from the thrift store more than if I purchased it from a retail store.

What a neat idea. I love using old items and making them new with a new purpose. The gold and white paired together is gorgeous. Thanks for sharing at the Motivational Monday Link Party. I can’t wait to see what you are up to next week.

Thanks for the compliment. I went thrift shopping to find something I could use to make the mirror and came across the blinds. I was so glad they were easy to cut. Thanks!
