DIY Hanging Chain Shelves

I purchased an Ikea chest from the thrift store. I wanted to update the chest for a boy's room. I attached wood flooring to the drawers after I stained the floor pieces.

I finally made a  diy hanging chain shelf like I have been wanting for my son’s room.

I have been wanting to makeover his bedroom for a while, but I knew that would require me to have to deep clean his room, and that would require me to have to look under his bed, and I really do not want to look under his bed.  Well, I bit the bullet, went in and conquered!

I made these shelves by drilling holes and running chains through the holes.

I wanted to add shelves over his chest, but I wanted something different. I am so blessed to have the best husband ever.  If I can’t think of what to use for a project, I go to him.  He went with me to Home Depot, and we walked around until he found all the supplies to make the shelves hang with chains. This DIY project is totally his.
I drilled holes in the shelves and ran chains through the holes to hang the shelves.

I used some boards that we already had to save money. After we drilled holes in the boards, and ran the chains through the holes, we secured the chains with a U bolt clamp.

I drilled holes in the shelves and ran chains through the holes to hang the shelves.

Now that his room is clean and I have updated most of it, I think the bed is too light for the room. “Oh sleigh bed, my paint brush and I will be coming after you tomorrow!” The newly painted bed will look great with the diy hanging chain shelves.

I love these shelves, Sherry! I could even see myself putting them in my office. The shiny metal would hopefully reflect light. Even small reflections count since I have no windows in the office!

I love the deep color of the wood. It looks so classic! Also, this is such a great rustic feel. I think the chains look cool for a boys room. I can’t wait to see how the repainted bed turns out!
