Bunny Cake Topper Made With Fondant

I had so much fun making this Bunny Cake Topper with fondant.

When I was growing up, I loved playing with Play-Doh.  Even when my kids would play with it, I would end up taking it from them, and making something of my own. And. then I discovered grown up Play-doh.  It is called Fondant.  And you can eat it!  Actually, store bought fondant is about as tasty as Play-doh, but it sure is pretty!

I have made homemade fondant with powdered sugar and marshmallows.  It taste wonderful, but it really is hard to work with, so I stick with store bought fondant.  I have found that Wilton Fondant from the craft store is hard to work with, so  I order Satin Ice fondant online.  In fact, only one bakery in my town sells it, and it is a 45 minute drive for me.

I used white fondant, and I colored a small amount of green, and a small amount of pink using gel food coloring.  If you do not have brown food coloring for the eyes, you can tear of a tiny piece of a tootsie roll and roll into a ball.  That is what I used for this bunny.

My favorite food coloring is Betty Crocker Neon Gel Food Colors found at Walmart.  The gel is so much easier to work with than liquid food colors.  Even though it says “neon,” you can use a tiny amount and it makes really soft colors.

I made the parts of the bunny, just like if I was using Play-Doh.  The fondant will adhere together just by slightly pressing the pieces together.  If you do have trouble making a piece stick, you can wet it with a drop of water before pressing together.

Make a bunny cake topper made with fondant for Easter, and you will impress your guests!

I can’t believe you made this Sherry! Fantastic. I’ve never done anything with fondant before, but I’m encouraged to do so with the guidance you’re providing here. I am pining this so that i can refer to it soon. I’m thinking I need to do this soon!

    Thanks again Sherrry!

Super cute! I will try your fondant recommendation. I made homemade fondant once and it was a disaster so I’ve steered clear ever since. I’m not sure I’m as skilled as you are though! Visiting from The Really Crafty party.
