I love to decorate my home. Having a beautiful home is not worth it if it puts your family in debt or in financial hardship. We strive to live debt-free and doing this means decorating my home as inexpensively as possible. It can be done!

Purchasing lamps brand new can be very pricey. Even lamps from a discount store can cost a good bit of money.

Find an inspiration photo.

What I do is find a photo of what I like.

Places to find great inspiration.

Instagram

Pinterest

Favorite Store’s websites

Magazines

For example, I came across this photo from one of my favorite people to follow on Instagram, Restored Haven. She is a great account to follow for home decor. This is exactly what I want in my room. I believe she scored these at Goodwill.

Then I go thrifting to find something with the same shape as the one in my inspiration photo. It does not matter what color it is because you can change it. Spray paint does wonders and it cost around $5.

Thrifted lamps

Score for $6.99 apiece. Tip: When I get rid of old lamps, I save the hardware in case I ever need it. If you don’t have lamp holder hardware, you can purchase them for around $5.

Look for lampshades at thrift stores to save even more money.

spray painted lamps

Spray paint the lamps with a Matte Black Spray Paint.

The lamps in my inspiration photos are a matte or flat paint sheen. Neutral colors in a flat sheen are very popular in home decor items right now.

In my opinion, the lamp looks as beautiful as the expensive one in my inspiration photo.

DIY Jug Lamps with Handles made from thrifted lamps saved me so much money and that makes me happy.
