After being a wife and mother for 30 years, I have finally figured out some things to make life a little easier. All of the laundry that piles up can be stressful for us. I have found a few tips that work.
The laundry room is usually a room that most people who visit your home do not see. It is easy to let the laundry room get unorganized and messy. All we have to do is shut the door and it is out of mind. The problem is that the condition of the laundry room can affect how well we get the laundry done. This can and will add stress to the ones in charge of doing the laundry. I promise you, if this room is more organized, you will not mind doing the chore as much.
We enter our home through the laundry room and the mess was driving me nuts. I decided to makeover this room and I discovered a few tips that have made doing laundry easier. My laundry room needs to be functional.
Tips for Organizing the Laundry Room
Hooks on the Wall
Adding coat hooks to the wall has made a huge difference to me. Before the hooks, I was hanging clothes on the doorknobs, cabinet, and even thrown over the washer and dryer doors. The wall hooks work well for clothes that are damp and need to hang dry. They also work well for when you don’t have a clothes hanger close by.
I have found the best prices for hooks on Amazon.
Wall Planter for Lint
You must clean your lint vent every time you use it. Having a garbage can in the room can take up valuable floor space. By hanging a wall planter on the wall for your lint and trash you can save a lot of space. The wall planter works so well and it looks cute. You could use so many things for lint. A small mailbox for the wall would work. A basket will work if you put a plastic bag inside.
Plus discarding your trash is so easy when the planter is right by the dryer.
Store Laundry Detergent and Pods in Jars
Easy access for laundry detergents and pods is a must. It is aggravating sometimes to dig through the cabinets and open the box for detergent or a pod. Having these so easily accessible is much more functional.
You do not have to purchase new jars for this. Things that you have around the house may work well. Large mason jars, small vases, flower pots are a few items that you could use for detergent storage. The jars in the photo are 1/2 gallon jars.
Add a Basket to a Hook for Storage
A basket added to the hooks works perfectly for socks or items to be hand washed. I use my basket for plastic bags that need to be taken to recycle. It is so easy to unbag my groceries and walk over and drop the bag in the basket. You can use baskets for so many things.
Use a Laundry Hamper with a Lid
I purchased a large basket with a lid for the dirty laundry. A basket with a lid is great because it hides the dirty laundry. Having the laundry closed in the basket makes me do the laundry faster. I don’t want the laundry to start smelling being closed. I do not put damp items in the basket for this reason.
Having an organized laundry room helps reduce the stress in my life. It also helps me do the laundry faster which is a big win for me.
