I am so excited to be participating in the $100 Room Challenge again. This is a room makeover challenge that is organized by Erin from Lemon’s, Lavender, & Laundry where you decorate a room in your home without spending more than $100. We have one month to complete the makeover and we post a weekly update every Wednesday. You may have seen Erin talk about this challenge on the Rachael Ray Show. I have participated in this challenge before and I love that Erin is passionate about showing others that you can makeover a room in your home without spending much money. You have to get creative and you usually have to do the work yourself making this is my kind of makeover!
Before I show you where I am starting my room makeover from, I want to show you how the room looked when we purchased the lake house four years ago. If you notice, the homeowners carpeted around all of the beds but did not carpet under the beds. Saving money, I guess??
The room that I have chosen to makeover is a bedroom at our lake house. We purchased a fixer-upper on a lake about 40 minutes from where we live and we wanted the house to be paid for so to keep from borrowing money, we did almost all of the work ourselves. It took us a while to do this but we paid for it as we went. We purchased a lot of materials and furnishings second hand from trading sites and thrift stores. It was hard work but we could not be more proud of our lake home.
You can view all the before and after photos on the blog post, Lake House Remodel.
After demoing the room, we found we had terrible termite damage so we replaced the boards and insulation, added sheetrock, and stained the concrete floors.
This is the state of the room that I am going to makeover. We purchased some bunk beds from a facebook trading site and used an old chest that we already had. We have slowly decorated the house but we have not touched this room. My son uses this room when we go to the lake so I thought it was time to decorate the room and to make it more comfortable for him and guest. Since we do not want to go into debt, the $100 room challenge is perfect.
Plans for the room
Remove the top bunk bed.
Purchase new art which I have already done.
Keep the thrifted comforters and make or purchase pillows.
Create a wall treatment since wallpaper will be over the budget.
Add window treatments which will probably have to be a diy project because of the budget.
This is our vacation home so we really don’t have the issue of storage and organization to deal with.
This really is one of the best makeover challenges that I have participated in and I really think you will enjoy all of the other talented and thrifty blogger’s makeovers. I am always blown away with all of the rooms in this challenge so be sure to visit all of the other’s below and enjoy!
