It is time for the $100 Room Challenge and I will be making over the guest bedroom at our lake house.

My Story

If you are new here, my name is Sherry and I live in Alabama. I have been blogging for over 6 years and I mostly blog DIY projects. In 1982, my boyfriend developed cancer. We were married and after 5 years, we adopted our daughter with Cerebral Palsy. Having a husband and daughter with enormous medical bills, I learned to be thrifty. I learned how to create a beautiful home without spending money because I did not have the money to spend. I lost my husband in 1998 and the Lord blessed me with a husband who loves the Lord and doing projects. Even though my financial situation has changed, I love to decorate on a budget. I believe that having a beautiful home is not worth putting your family in debt. That’s why I love to decorate on a very low budget. It can be done, ladies!

What is the $100 Room Challenge?

The $100 Room Challenge is a bi-yearly challenge that is created by Erin from Lemons, Lavender, and Laundry. A group of bloggers have to completely transform a room but must not spend more than $100. This small budget demands creativity, DIY projects, and bargain shopping. When you think that one can of paint can cost almost half your budget, you have to really brainstorm to make this budget work. This is my kind of challenge and it is the fifth time that I have participated.  First, I will share a few of my $100 makeovers.

I am going to call the above picture my “Before” picture. The truth is that this room has been a room where we threw everything that we did not have a place for.

Our Lake House Renovation

We purchased the home 7 years ago. When I found the property on the Real Estate site there was not a picture of the home. I knew there was a reason for this and this meant that the home was in our price range. The home was in terrible condition but had a beautiful lot on the lake. It is a tiny 55-year-old fish camp. We did almost all the work ourselves and the home is 45 minutes away. We got the home into living condition and now I am trying to decorate the home as I like. That is why I love this challenge. It makes me get the lake house looking like I want it too without going into debt. You can view how we made over our lake house inexpensively here.

The Plan

I have a plan and I am so excited to make it happen. My goal is to make each room comfortable and functional. Also, I want it to be pretty.

  1. I will do a wall treatment.
  2. Paint the bed
  3. Make pillows
  4. Paint curtain rod
  5. Purchase curtains from a thrift store
  6. Make pillows
  7. Purchase decor

Come back each week to see the progress I make. Also, check out the other blogger’s rooms.
