Welcome back for $100 Room Challenge Bedroom Week 2. The $100 Room Challenge is a challenge organized by Erin from Lemons, Lavender, and Laundry where we have 4 weeks to completely transform a room but can not spend over $100. The full room reveals will be showcased in two weeks.
Room Before
My son’s bedroom has looked like this for too many years. He is almost out of the house and to college but better late than never.
Mood Board
Since I am going for a Boho and rustic look for the room, I decided to build a bench for the end of his bed. We just replaced several rotting boards on our back deck this summer, and I had a few scraps left. Wasting good wood bothers me so I used it for my bench. I have a separate blog post and tutorial for the end of bed wood bench.
I roughed up the boards by using a chain and a hammer and also cut some groves and dents into the wood with a small saw. Mixing two colors of stain that I already have on hand and using pieces of scrap wood, I was able to complete the bench without spending any money. Yay!
I also painted three of the walls in his room white and I am still brainstorming the accent wall for behind the bed. Finding a can of opps paint at Lowes for $5 for this accent wall is going to save me money. Opps paint is paint that has been returned to the store because the customer was not happy with it. It is usually $9 at Lowes but this can was marked down to $5. I hope that the paint is okay but I have never had any problems with purchasing this paint. Here’s a hint. It’s going to be dark and moody.
We have two more weeks until the full reveal and I can’t wait to see everyone’s rooms.

The bench is perfect! It makes me want to go through my wood pile! So simple looking and pretty. Or should I say handsome since it’s for a boy? 😉

I love the big window your son has! And I also love the little bench you made for him. How great that you were able to make it for free! I want to learn how to be more handy with power tools- I only feel fairly confident with a drill. (How embarrassing!)

I LOVE IT!!! That bench looks amazing! And free is always a good price to pay 🙂 I’m so excited to see what color you find for the accent wall. I actually have a can of oops paint from Home Depot that would have been perfect for you… I almost used it in our bathroom, but went with a different color instead.
